Innovation, experimentation, and digital transformation for science and education
The Disruptive Technologies Lab, DTL, is GVCM’s experimental environment for learning, prototyping, and innovation. Created to explore emerging technologies and new digital environments, the lab supports research and development in areas that can transform how science is studied, taught, and communicated.
DTL operates at the intersection of scientific visualization, interactive computing, immersive technologies, and digital innovation. Our goal is to turn ideas into practical solutions through experimentation, collaboration, and applied research.
Focus Areas
DTL explores and applies technologies such as:
- Data and information visualization
- Artificial intelligence
- Augmented, virtual, and mixed reality
- Interactive digital environments
- Internet of Things
- Emerging tools for science, education, and innovation
These technologies are investigated not as isolated trends, but as practical instruments for creating new research methods, learning experiences, and digital products.
How do We Work
DTL is designed to be flexible, collaborative, and action-oriented. The lab works through small, agile teams and an experimental mindset that encourages rapid learning and continuous iteration. Our approach is informed by methods such as Action Research, Design Thinking, Scrum and Agile development. This structure helps us move quickly from concept to prototype while keeping the user, the learning experience, and the scientific objective at the center of the process.
From Ideas to Prototypes
DTL supports the creation of proofs of concept, prototypes, MVPs, and applied digital projects. Through this hands-on approach, the lab helps transform early ideas into tangible results that can be tested, refined, and expanded. To date, the lab has supported more than 50 proofs of concept, 30 prototypes, 6 MVPs, and 4 launched projects.
Open Innovation and Collaboration
DTL is built on the principles of collaboration and open innovation. We aim to provide an open environment where researchers, students, and partners can explore ideas, test new approaches, and work together on meaningful challenges.
We welcome both formal and informal collaborations with scholars, institutions, research groups, and innovation partners.
